Highland Park Residents: Text WDET With Your Concerns About Water Quality

101.9 WDET is partnering with Outlier Media on a reporting project to help Highland Park residents identify gaps in the city’s response to lead detection in tap water.

101.9 WDET is partnering with Outlier Media to introduce a texting service for Highland Park residents to identify gaps in knowledge regarding the city’s detection of lead in tap water.

Earlier this summer, Highland Park city officials announced that nine out of 36 homes tested had high levels of lead. Last month, that number rose to 18 homes out 350 results returned. Highland Park city officials have cautioned against panic, but the alert surfaced persistent concerns from residents about water quality and the lack of communication from the agency that runs Highland Park’s water supply.

FAQ: How to get your water tested and understand the results

Now, WDET and Outlier Media have launched a texting service that residents can use to report on the city’s response to water quality concerns. This service will help residents and our reporters understand how far the city has gone to address the situation. To participate, residents can text the word “water” to “73224”.

Text “water” to 73224 to activate WDET’s texting service for Highland Park residents concerned about water quality.
