Deadbeat Beat Perform Live in Studio A, Previewing New Album ‘How Far’

The band has a long history dating back to middle school days in Gross Pointe. Their new album is out Aug. 2nd.

Deadbeat Beat

Deadbeat Beat are a Detroit-based pop trio comprised of Alex Glendening on lead vocals and guitar, Maria Nuccilli on drums and backing vocals and Zak Frieling on bass, and they’ve got their second full-length album, “How Far,” coming out August 2nd.

Deadbeat Beat’s origins date back more than 15 years to a friendship formed in middle school in Grosse Pointe. They’ve been making music together for more than half their lives, initially breaking out on the local music scene with a group called The Decks. Deadbeat Beat’s first shows were back in 2010 and they’ve since released an EP, as well as an album on both cassette and vinyl.

Their new album was produced by local audio wizard Jeff Else. The new songs were mastered by the singer/songwriter Fred Thomas, who’s revered amid indie-rock circles on a national scale, from his time leading the chamber-pop ensemble Saturday Looks Good To Me.

The band has been on a handful of tours over the years, but one of their most favorite venues is certainly the UFO Factory in Corktown, where they’ll be performing an album release party at this Saturday. Joining them are the bands Soviet Girls, Shells, and Career Club.

The trio of longtime friends came to WDET Studios to perform some live songs, including the album’s lead single “You Life Me Up.”
