Join a Moonwalks Music Video at Outer Limits Lounge

The Outer Limits Lounge is one of my favorite venues. It’s not necessarily ‘retro’ in a conventional sense, but it’s a hip dive, a modern throwback. It’s got style. That’s why Moonwalks, a local trio that blend psychedelic rock, 60’s-mod-pop and contemporary effects-splashed shoegaze, are choosing this Hamtramck locale for a music video shoot. They’ll be performing with another local rock band, Paint Thinner.

Here’s Moonwalks “A Little Touch of Gravity”

Jake Riley & The Social Workers Album Release Weekend Parties Start at Ziggy’s

Ann Arbor-based ensemble Jake Riley & The Social Workers bring a twangy, tumbling rock ‘n’ roll, a la Son Volt, the Jayhawks, or even some Tom Petty. Yes, a couple members of the band are actually social workers by day. Their debut  album is called “For All And None,” and they are in Ypsilanti at Ziggy’s in Ypsilanti Friday evening, and coming to the Ghost Light in Hamtramck on Saturday.

H.R. of Bad Brains Joins J. Navarro & the Traitors and Downtown Brown in Ferndale

One of the most influential bands in the history of punk music is Bad Brains, a group that entirely changed the game for fast music played with agility and musicality and wound up fusing that energy into reggae. That band was led by H.R., otherwise known as Paul Hudson, and he’s coming to The Loving Touch with Michigan musician Downtown Brown, J. Navarro & the Traitors.

Listen to J. Navarro & the Traitors song, “Traitor’s Stomp.

Honey Monsoon, Sophiyah E., and Saxsquatch & Bridge Band at Northern Lights Lounge

Honey Monsoon is one of the most exhilarating bands to experience live. It’s a dexterous ensemble that creates melodic, groovy, catchy fusions of soul and pop music. They’re joined by a band called Saxsquatch & Bridge Band coming in from Kalamazoo and Sophiyah E., from right here in Detroit. She’s a singer/songwriter composing cosmic soul arrangements that conjure a much needed sense of serenity and peace.

Here’s Sophiyah E’s track “Defy.”
