Friday, April 19th

The Lucid Furs “No God? No Problem” Album Release at Small’s

The local quintet The Lucid Furs are releasing their second album No God? No Problem Friday at Small’s. There is a heaviness to their rhythm section, a psychedelic gnarly-ness to the guitar, and something redolent of mystical incantations to the vocals, but they’re not out to cast a spell; if anything, they’re here to wake us up. Ypsilanti-based Scissor Now, will join this show, along with the Scapes, and the always theatrical, prop-implementing surf rock band, Krillin.

Poor Player “Where The Wasteland Ends” Album Release at PJs Lager House

Poor Player may be a little bit country, but they’re a lot more inclined toward folk, rock, and Americana-blues. This is a seven-piece ensemble with novella-like storyteller lyrics, set to rollicking rhythms, expressive guitars, and rustbelt warbles. They’ll be releasing a new album, Where The Wasteland Ends, this Friday at PJs Lager House. Folksinger Mike Galbraith is opening, along with folk-rock balladeers Jo Serrapere and the Willie Dunns. Also on the lineup are Whiskey Charmers, who blend a bit of dark surf rock into their bluesy Americana songs.

Saturday, April 20th

Mic Phelps & the Plug, James Linck, Clyde Moon, and Eyes Cried Shut at Outer Limits Lounge

Eyes Cried Shut will be joined by emcee Mic Phelps, a multifaceted artist who sings and plays piano; he’s often seen doing solo rap sets, but Saturday at Outer Limits Lounge, he’ll be leading his soul/jazz fusion band. Other artists on the lineup include James Link and the trippy art-pop group Clyde Moop.

Rabbit Ears, Shallow Stairs, and Dirty Copper at the Ghost Light

Dirty Copper plays punk-inclined rock ‘n’ roll, while Shallow Stairs tunes in to some indie-rock, with an experimentalist edge to it. Finally, Rabbit Ears plays rollicking solid garage grooves on bass, guitar and drums–only each member is masked with some distinctive bunny-faces and protruding ears.
