Each week, we give you a seat at the table of the latest trends and new restaurants opening their doors in metro Detroit.

CultureShift’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Detroit News reporter Melody Beatens about a Greek-style pizza at Gilbert’s Lodge on the east-side that’s red hot right now.

“It’s got the saganaki cheese. They light it on fire. They do the whole ‘opa’ thing,” explains Baetens. “It’s not as big of a flame as you would have from an actual plate of saganaki on a metal plate, but it’s kind of fun. It’s something different.”

Beyond saganaki pizza, Gilbert’s is known for many other bar-food options.

“They do a really good deep-dish pizza,” adds Baetens. “They’ve got a huge menu.”
