Love is in the air in Detroit.

Even if you don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day or hate the idea of what many see as a “Hallmark Holiday,” it’s still interesting to see what restaurants in Metro Detroit are up to on this romantic day.

One of the more interesting spots to check out this year is “Coney’s by Candlelight” hosted by American Coney Island.

CultureShift’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Detroit News features reporter Melody Baetens about American Coney’s date-night and some of the other unique reservations you can make on one of the biggest restaurant days of the year.

“They’re always doing something funny down there at American,” Baetens says. “You can come in and have a Coney dog. The ladies get a rose and it’s just, kind of, a fun way to celebrate the holiday without too much pretention and just keep it super casual.”

“There’s a lot of variations (on what to do on Valentine’s Day),” adds Baetens. “You can be super kitschy and affordable all the way up to spend big, big, big bucks.”

These are two other unexpected spots with Valentine’s Day-themed events happening in the region.
