World War II Thriller “Memoir of War” Lands at the Detroit Film Theatre This Weekend

The French World War II thriller Memoir of War is playing this weekend.
Memoir of War is an adaptation of Marguerite Duras’ semi-autobiographical novel, The War: A Memoir.
Directed by French filmmaker Emmanuel Finkiel, Memoir is set in Nazi-occupied France in 1944. In the movie, Duras’ Jewish husband is arrested by the Gestapo and taken away.
WDET’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Detroit Film Theatre curator Elliott Wilhelm to find out more about the film.
“(Memoir of War) …is about the months that (Duras) spent trying to track (her husband) down,” says Wilhelm. “You don’t need to know anything about…Marguerite in real life to find this an extraordinary addition to World War II cinema.”
