Arise Detroit is holding its annual “Neighborhoods Rising Summit” on Saturday. The event gives city residents an opportunity to learn more about the practical side of neighborhood building.  Speakers will discuss issues ranging from buying homes through the Detroit Land Bank to water shutoff prevention.

Luther Keith is the Executive Director of Arise Detroit and the organizer of the event.  He says the whole day is centered around making Detroit’s neighborhoods stronger by giving residents knowledge they may not have.

“The neighborhood summit is a ‘learn’ day,” says Keith.

“A lot of people don’t know how to form block clubs. They don’t know how to get funding for a start-up business.”

Speakers include Wendy Jackson from the Kresge Foundation, Anika Goss-Foster from Detroit Future City, and Kevin Ryan from the Ford Foundation.

The free event takes place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the downtown campus of the Wayne County Community College District at 1001 W. Fort Street in Detroit.
