Public art has become an essential part of the metro Detroit region and officials in Macomb County have launched a new digital resource to tap into that trend — an online map of the public art installations located in the county.

It’s part of a larger push to rebrand Macomb as a destination for arts and culture.

The map will allow residents and visitors to discover the various paintings, murals and sculptures scattered throughout Macomb.

WDET’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Pam Lavers, Macomb County deputy county executive, about the new digital resource.

“(The online map) helps define Macomb County’s identity in a new way,” says Lavers.

“I always felt that there’s this connection for people through arts and culture,” she adds. “This map will do just that.”
