Framed by WDET is an audiovisual experience that tells the stories of a side of Detroit that is too often overlooked.

In this feature, photographer Justin Milhouse and NPR storyteller Shannon Cason usher us into Detroit’s ever-thriving world of hair design and styling with Hair Capital of the World. In photos of wildly creative styles and conversations with Detroit’s prolific hair personalities, it highlights yet another art form that proudly defines our region.

“Detroit has never been shy or scared to show off,” says Cason, “and the styles from Detroit stretched the boundaries of what people could and should do with hair.”
