Framed by WDET: Journey to Bubble Metropolis

Framed by WDET is an audio-visual project that features the stories of ten ethnic and cultural communities in and around Detroit. In partnership with 18 local artists, this series highlights distinct moments and spaces, personalities and sounds that color the region.
The beats, voices and dancing bodies of Detroit’s vogueing and electronic music scenes make it hard not to move your feet when listening to Framed by WDET: Journey to Bubble Metropolis. Producer Conor Anderson and photographer Corine Vermeulen highlight some of the key people activating Detroit electronic music spaces. In this interview, Julisa Abad talks about The Woodward Bar, a safe space in Detroit for LGBTQ dance and music lovers and performers.
“I was so fascinated with how the movements and the dancing and just the fluidity of your body and how you just could express yourself without opening your mouth,” says Abad.
