The leadership of the board of the USA Gymnastics organization is resigning.

The move comes as a sentencing hearing continues for a former Michigan sports doctor who molested Olympic gymnasts he was supposed to be treating for injuries.

The chair, vice chair and treasurer of the Board of Directors of USA Gymnastics resigned as victims of former team physician Larry Nassar question who knew what and when about his conduct.

Nassar pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges brought in Ingham and Eaton counties and is currently hearing statements from those who say he abused them under the guise of providing treatment.

More than 140 women and girls have requested to speak at the hearing.

Nassar, who also worked for Michigan State University, has already been sentenced to 60 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

Both victims and some state legislators have called for Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon to resign.

Michigan’s Attorney General is reviewing how the university handled allegations regarding Nassar.
