Even license plates are going high tech at the North American International Auto Show.

An automotive solutions company called Reviver Auto is showcasing its Digital License Plate.

The “R-Plate Pro” is connected to the Department of Motor Vehicles, which company officials say eases the process of registering, renewing and personalizing a license plate.

Spokesperson Cassandra Cavanah says the whole registration process can be done via an app.

“There’s a dashboard that you go in and you pay,” Cavanah says. “We have a relationship with the DMV. It gets paid and it gets automatically updated. So yeah, you never have to walk outside and stick another sticker on your plate.”

Cavanah says the plates also include tracking technology to alert police if a car is stolen.

The plates have already debuted in California. Cavanah says the company is talking with state officials about also bringing the plates to Michigan.
