Pieces of Motown Go on the Auction Block
Estate sale and auction features rare items once owned by Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr. from his former mansion.

Pieces of Detroit’s musical history are hitting the auction block.
An estate is selling items from a mansion in Detroit’s Boston-Edison neighborhood once owned by Motown music founder Berry Gordy, Jr.
The items include everything from handwritten designs for album covers to a Steinway piano famously played by several of Gordy’s Motown stars.
“We keep finding things every day. It’s like a time capsule in this home. Things that haven’t really seen the light of day since the 60’s or 70’s.” – Aaron Siepierski, Aaron’s Estate Sales
But the man in charge of the estate sale, Aaron Siepierski, says one artifact of Gordy’s in particular speaks to him.
“(Gordy’s) personal globe is my favorite thing. He’s been photographed with it as a young man sitting in his chair next to his globe with his hand on it. To me, as an entrepreneur, it represents him trying to take his company worldwide. And with the Motown label on it, that speaks volumes,” Siepierski says.
The estate has been taking pre-bids for the auction.
It is set to run from now through Saturday both at the mansion and online.
Some Motown performers are even scheduled to be on hand at the mansion during the auction tonight to sign memorabilia.
