There comes a point in all our lives when it’s time to be more independent.

Here in Detroit, challenges are something we have a long history of rising to meet. WDET has been growing in both our reach and impact, and along with the city of Detroit, we grow stronger together.

But ready or not – it’s time to take the next step towards becoming fiscally independent.

Today, WDET faces an unexpected new challenge. Due to budget pressures and the need to focus limited resources towards its core educational mission, Wayne State University will reduce the annual financial subsidy it provides WDET for basic operations. Though Wayne State remains our licensee and largest supporter, this means that we must rely even more on dedicated listeners like you to sustain WDET’s mission to move our region forward.

Because of this change in our funding mix, WDET must raise $550,000 this fall – TWICE as much as last year – to meet our financial goals. These funds are necessary to pay for the programs you love, to provide the experiences you enjoy AND to replace the operating dollars previously provided by the university.

Yes, this is an aggressive goal, but one that is achievable because of you.

Ensuring the sustainable financial health of WDET is the goal, and it’s more important than ever before. Delivering the critical news and essential music you expect every day is our promise to you. Your continued financial support is your promise to WDET.

Independent news and music on WDET is only possible with your support. Help sustain independent public radio for Detroit now and in the future with your gift today. We’re counting on you.
