DDOT Ends Service to Northland Mall Stop
More than ten DDOT and SMART bus routes will be rerouted from the Northland Mall stop.
The Detroit Department of Transportation and SMART bus systems will no longer make stops at Northland Mall beginning September 2nd.
Northland mall closed in 2015 and is scheduled for demolition forcing the transit systems to vacate the bus stop.
DDOT Director Dan Dirks says the changes will affect more than ten routes and about four thousand customers daily.
“In some cases, like Southfield and Greenfield, we’re going to go directly to Providence Hospital,” Dirks says. “And so we’re trying to avoid transfers that occurred before. The DDOT Evergreen service is going to go initially to Nine Mile but eventually to Ten Mile and Evergreen so that folks don’t have to transfer.”
Dirks says the changes will also cut down on walk time from the bus stop to Oakland Community College.
Other routes affected include the Dexter, Eight Mile, Orchard Ridge, and Northwestern.
