Does Downtown Detroit Have Too Many Burgers?
Detroit Free Press restaurant critic Mark Kurlyandchik and restaurateur Eli Boyer duke it out via open letters
Does Detroit have too many burgers and not enough culinary diversity as downtown dining options expand? Detroit Free Press restaurant critic Mark Kurlyandchik says yes and wrote an open letter to restaurateur Eli Boyer, who currently owns seafood hotspot Voyager in Ferndale and plans to open a burger joint downtown by early 2018.
Boyer responded with a published piece in the Free Press, saying he’s simply meeting a demand and that he hopes to offer something new to the restaurant scene.
We brought both Kurlyandchik and Boyer into the WDET studios to talk about Detroit’s abundance of burgers and what they expect the city’s restaurant scene to look like in five years.
