NPR hosts Lulu Garcia-Navarro and Michel Martin join WDET’s weekend lineup

WDET’s new schedule takes effect today as we get ready to head into the summer.

Starting this weekend, you’ll be able to rely on WDET for news and music 7 days a week.

More news is happening on the weekends, so we’re bringing back Weekend Edition Sunday with host Lulu Garcia-Navarro so you can start every morning with relevant stories and smart analysis from NPR.

We’re also thrilled to have NPR’s Michel Martin return to our airwaves with Weekend All Things Considered on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 5 p.m.

While a few of our music shows have become shorter to make room for these additions, you’ll be hearing more music variety during the weekend and your favorite hosts will be appearing more often throughout the week during CultureShift and Detroit Today as well as special programming and podcasts. You’ll also have more opportunities to meet and connect with WDET hosts in person through station events.

Other highlights include:

  • Modern Music with Jon Moshier moves from Friday night to Saturday at 3 p.m. following four hours of Essential Music with Ann Delisi and Rob Reinhart,
  • Rob Reinhart’s Acoustic Café moves to 1 p.m. on Sunday following two hours of Ann Delisi’s Essential Music featuring local artists, live performances, and in-studio interviews.
  • This American Life now airs Sundays at 10 a.m. and you’ll have another chance to hear other favorites like The Moth, Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me, Radiolab and Snap Judgment on Sunday afternoons from 3-8 p.m. before The Progressive Underground with Chris Campbell
  • Nick Austin’s New Soul Sunday becomes Soul Saturday starting at 8 p.m. and leading into a night of blues and R&B on Jay’s Place with Jay Butler
