Emery King is best known to Detroiters as a news anchor at WDIV for 19 years. King broke into news reporting in Chicago during the 1970s, before joining the NBC News Washington Bureau in 1980. In the coveted post of White House correspondent he covered President Ronald Reagan’s first term and then took to the road to chronicle Reagan’s 1984 re-election campaign.
When he left Channel 4 as an anchor, Emery and his wife, Jacqueline, founded KingBerry Productions. Together they produced a series of documentaries about Detroit, unions, and race. King also became the voice and face of the DMC, and created a medical library of videos for their website under now Mayor Duggan. In 2011, he was loaned to the City of Detroit as communications consultant during a Mayor Bing’s term. Emery King also chaired the Michigan Film Office Advisory Council.
WDET host Ann Delisi has been working with Emery King for more than ten years behind the scenes of his company, now named Emery King Communications. Ann Delisi will put her interview skills to work and interview her “boss” on May 17 at the Detroit Historical Museum.
