Rep. Debbie Dingell Talks Trump’s Unpredictability, How Democrats Can Win in 2018
Dingell discusses the runoff election in Georgia, global relations, and infrastructure in the United States.
Congress is taking some time off after a rocky start to its new session this year. Republican leaders have failed to pass some of their highest priorities within the first 100 days of President Trump’s administration. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Dearborn), who represents Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, took some time during her break to talk with Stephen Henderson on Detroit Today.
Last night a Georgia Democrat who hoped to win a congressional seat outright was sent into a runoff election that will take place in June.
Democrats were hoping to ride an anti-Trump wave to take the seat held by Republicans for more than 40 years. Will Democrats be able to drum-up support for close elections in the coming years?
“This is a very strongly Republican district and Republicans and Democrats are going to both use everything in their tool chest to try to win this seat,” Dingell says. “Money will matter to some extent here.”
Recently Dingell says she has found many people who are in shock that Trump won and who are interested in ways they can get involved in government. However, she believes Trump will become very engaged, before June, in the runoff election in Georgia.
She also discusses the new administration in regards to healthcare, tax reform, infrastructure, and what is going on globally in regards to countries like North Korea.
