What CPB Funding Means to WDET and You

The elimination of federal funding would cripple WDET’s local news and fact-based journalism.

I’m sure you’ve heard the news about the President’s proposed budget, which encourages Congress to eliminate federal funding for public media.

WDET receives about 5.2 percent of our annual budget from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. We use these funds to bring you essential news and music — from Detroit and around the world.

The elimination of federal funding would cripple WDET’s ability to provide you with local news and fact-based journalism, to hold elected officials accountable, and to share Detroit’s stories and rich culture.

So what can you do?

WDET’s largest and most critical source of funding comes from our community and local businesses: people like you.

You believe in independent journalism, the power of music and solution-oriented conversations. You value the sense of community that is WDET.

So, Detroit, it’s up to you. Join Team DET now with your first gift, a renewal of your support or an increase in your sustaining monthly donation. Make a gift today »

Public media’s fate hasn’t been determined yet, but the President’s intention is clear.

Make your intentions clear.  Your contribution is vital now, more than ever.
