Forecasters can warn people about approaching severe weather in plenty of time for them to find shelter. Technology has also improved storm forecasting. But, the National Weather Service still needs people to help them track violent events such as tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, and report damage. Every spring, the agency offers spotter training courses throughout Southeast Michigan. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rich Pollman tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller spotters observe things technology can’t. The first Skywarn training session of the season is scheduled on Feb. 23, 2017 at the Ypsilanti Township Civic Center
