Framed by WDET: Hummus Heartland is a collection of stories about Detroit’s ubiquitous Middle Eastern food culture. WDET brought together radio producer Zak Rosen and photographer Marvin Shaouni to tell intimate stories united by the iconic, delicious food staple – hummus.
Within the series listeners are introduce to neighbors Gada Hadi and Jeff Broder. The Hadi family, who are originally from Lebanon, moved out of Dearborn Heights into a beautiful home on a quiet block in Bloomfield Hills. Shortly after moving they were pleasantly greeted by their neighbor Jeff Broder and his homemade pizza. The rest was history.

Framed by WDET: Hummus Heartland will open on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 from 6 to 10 p.m. and remain on display until Feb. 5, 2017 at Bank Suey in Hamtramck. Stories will also be available through a mobile listening session at framedbywdet.org.
