Two elementary schools in Livonia will close at the end of the school year.

The school board cited declining enrollment and cost savings as the reasons for the closures.

Students at Cass and Garfield Elementary Schools will move to other buildings in the district. Teachers can move with their students.

Livonia Superintendent Andrea Oquist says the district is looking ahead to the transition.

“We will make every effort as we move forward with this transition to continue to provide a very successful, positive, and outstanding school experience for all of the students entrusted to us,” says Oquist.

She says the move will save around $800,000 a year, in addition to $6 million per building in renovation costs.
