Federal auto safety officials are opening an investigation into about one million Fiat Chrysler vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s investigation covers 2013 to 2016 model year RAM 1500 pickups and 2014 to 2016 Dodge Durango SUV’s. The agency says there have been 43 complaints from owners alleging the vehicles rolled away unexpectedly while they were shifted into park — some while the engine was still running. Owners also reported 25 crashes and nine injuries.

Federal officials say none of the reports indicate the parking brake was engaged during the incidents. They say all drivers should apply a parking brake to keep vehicles from rolling away.

Fiat Chrysler says it is cooperating fully with the investigation.
