MSP Changing Criteria for AMBER Alerts
Starting in January, AMBER Alerts will only be sent for child abductions.
AMBER Alerts in Michigan will now only be issued for child abductions.
The Michigan State Police are making the change to use the system only for the most dire situations involving minors.
Spokesperson Lori Dougovito says all other missing person alerts will be sent through the new “Endangered Missing Advisory” system.
“We now have the option to use this Endangered Missing Advisory sent to broadcast and print media in specific areas of the incident, by county or counties. But we are not going to utilize the emergency alert system,” Dougovito says.
Dougovito says “endangered missing” alerts will be used for cases that don’t rise to the urgency level of an AMBER Alert.
She says there are no age restrictions for the new advisories.
