Distracted? Get Your Head Out of Your App!

State Police start new campaign against distracted driving.

Distracted driver's hand

Michigan State Police have started a new safety campaign to encourage drivers to pay attention behind the wheel. It’s called “Get Your Head Out of Your App”. Troopers in unmarked vehicles will be watching for drivers who are using their cell phones or other devices, or doing anything else that might take their eyes off the road. Lt. Michael Shaw tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller it’s a statewide effort. Shaw says one of the top distractions include texting while driving, which is illegal in Michigan. First-time offenders are fined $100. The penalty doubles for a second ticket. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
