Piper Laurie is a three-time Oscar nominee for the films The Hustler, Carrie, and Children of a Lesser God.

She recently released a memoir titled “Learning To Live Out Loud” as an audio book, which she narrates herself.

On Thursday night, she’ll be at the Detroit Institute of Arts hosting a benefit, “An Evening With Piper Laurie,” at 7:30 p.m.

Laurie joins Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson to reflect on her early career and talk about coming back to Detroit.

She says the films that catapulted her career were “horrible movies.”

“I hated them,” says Laurie. “I’m proud that I survived it. And some of them were better than others and they were fun. The people enjoyed them.”
