Trash Pickup to Resume Tomorrow in Flint
Flint Mayor Karen Weaver says trash service will resume Tuesday, after suspending trash pick-up for city residents.
Trash pickup will resume Tuesday for Flint residents but only until city officials can agree on a new service company.
The city’s contract with Republic Services expired Friday. Mayor Karen Weaver suggested the city switch to Rizzo Environmental Service…whose price tag is two million dollars cheaper. But city council disagrees.
Council Member Scott Kincaid says though Rizzo may be cheaper…it did not offer the same level of service as the current service provider.
“They were going to provide a blight truck and two people to address blight in the City of Flint,” Kincaid says. “They were going to provide dumpsters for neighborhood cleanups. And they were also providing passes for residents to be able to take stuff to the landfill.”
A statement from Mayor Weaver says Republic will continue to collect trash until August 12th.
