“It’s really about curating local brands that we love as well as hiring designers that want to tap into the market in Detroit and see what the appetite is for their brand here.” – DITNB founder Roslyn Karamoko

Detroit-centric apparel boutiques show no sign in slowing down.

From the classic staying-power of Made in Detroit to the recent rash of brands such as Detroit Hustles HarderDetroit vs Everybody, and now Detroit Is The New Black, some of these businesses are about more than just slinging a slogan on a t-shirt.

Detroit Is the New Black founder Roslynn Karamoko is celebrating the opening of a spacious new pop-up boutique and gallery space downtown Detroit.

I popped down there on its opening day and asked what “Detroit is the New Black” means to her.

Detroit is the New Black is located at 1426 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
