Help For Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

Detroit, Wayne County offer assistance for people with overdue property taxes.

Nearly nine thousand homeowners in Detroit and Wayne County could lose their homes to foreclosure soon, because they owe back taxes. The city and the county are holding an event Saturday, June 18 for people who need help paying their property taxes. It’ll be held at the Northwest Activities Center at Meyers and McNichols. City Treasurer David Szymanski tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller many homeowners could qualify for an exemption on their principal residence. They may also be entitled to other benefits to reduce their tax burden. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and homeowners should bring photo I-D, proof of income, and a copy of their deeds
