Time To Make a Tornado Safety Plan

It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan.

Tornado Siren

This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan. State and local government agencies say it’s a good time to review your home’s tornado safety plan—or to make one. Many communities will be taking part in a statewide tornado drill Wednesday afternoon (if you hear sirens go off, that’s why). National Weather Service meteorologist Rich Pollman tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the agency will issue a test tornado warning at 1:30 p.m. He says some communities will activate their tornado sirens at that time, but participation in the drill is voluntary. TV and radio stations may also broadcast the test. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
