Injuries Take a Bit of Thunder Out of Lightning, Which Could Help Red Wings

Detroit begins its 25th straight Stanley Cup playoff campaign Wednesday

The Detroit Red Wings have made the Stanley Cup playoffs for the 25th straight season. Their first-round opponent will be the Tampa Bay Lightning, whose general manager is longtime Wings captain Steve Yzerman. The teams split their four regular season games, each winning twice. The Lightning will miss one of their star players. Steven Stamkos is out with blood clots in his arm. The Wings have endured inconsistent goaltending from Jimmy Howard and Petr Mrazek of late. WDET’s Art Regner has covered the Red Wings for many years. He tells Pat Batcheller what to expect in this series. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
