Construction Project to Begin on I-75 Near Square Lake Road

MDOT is removing foliage from the median along I-75 near Square Lake Road.

Road crews are clearing brush Tuesday along I-75 near Square Lake Road in preparation of a major reconstruction project. The Michigan Department of Transportation is planning to rebuild the freeway between Eight Mile Road and M-59.

MDOT Spokesperson Rob Morosi says the reconstruction will help reduce the frequency of car accidents on the highway.

“There’s a portion of I-75 near square lake where we had some high crash locations, really. Mainly attributed to left lane exit and left lane entrance,” Morosi says.

Morosi says the infrastructure project will realign the interchange at Square Lake Road and fix some bridges. He says the stretch of the highway has not been rebuilt since it was constructed in 1960.
