WSU Extends Ernie Harwell’s Legacy With New Baseball Facility

Harwell Field is set to open in the fall, paid for with private donations.

A new baseball facility named for Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell is coming to Wayne State University. The athletic department raised $1.7 million to construct the Harwell Field Baseball Building. WSU Athletic Director Rob Fournier tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller all the money was donated, and much of it came in small amounts. Fournier says the facility should be completed and open to the public this fall. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
