Some Flint Fire Trucks Intake Valves Corroded by Flint Water
The Flint Fire Department has found corrosion around its trucks’ water pumps due to the city’s contaminated water.
Flint’s contaminated water is causing issues with some fire trucks. The Fire Department has found corrosion in the intake valves of three water pumps.
Chief David Cox Junior says it’s not clear whether the lead in the drinking water is the reason for the unusual corrosion.
“And I’m not an engineer, I’m not a water expert but I would assume that it’s the same thing that happened to the motors and the parts at General Motors when they stopped using the water,” Cox says.
Cox says the rest of the department’s water pumps are functioning fine. But, he says the department will take precautions when using the water by flushing fire hydrants before using them.
