On Wednesday, Detroit Lions All-Pro wide receiver, Calvin Johnson released a statement through the Lions website, stating that he is contemplating retiring from the NFL. Needless to say, Johnson’s statement sent a wave of panic through the Lions loyal fanbase. Sports columnist for The Detroit News, John Niyo, joins host Stephen Henderson, on Detroit Today to discuss the likelihood that Johnson, has played his last game for Detroit.

  • Is this a real possibility?  Niyo tells Henderson, that people that know Johnson are saying that he is serious about ending his football career.
  • Why? There are several factors as to why Johnson may walk away, with health being a big reason and the Lions inability to put a consistent winning team on the field.
  • The Elder Statesman: According to Niyo, Johnson doesn’t have many friends on team, because he’s one of the Lions oldest players, so he may feel that Father Time is sending him a message.
