A pedestrian bridge over the Southfield Freeway has reopened. The walkway at Cathedral Avenue was rebuilt after a truck pulled it down last year.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Diane Cross says the overpass is now also compliant with the American with Disabilities Act.

“We’ve added pedestrian lights to make that bridge more useful. The decorative crosswalks, that’s just icing on the cake. But it really is going to be a more useable and accessible bridge for the community,” Cross says.

Cross says the service drive north of Joy Road still has one lane closed in each direction, while crews finish clean-up of the project.
