RTA Approves Plan to Boost Bus Services in Metro Detroit
The Regional Transit Authority has unanimously approved a proposal to improve transit from the suburbs into Detroit.
The Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan has unanimously approved a proposal to return bus services to key routes traveling between Detroit and the suburbs. The plan includes a partnership between the separate regional and city bus systems to provide better service between the suburbs and Detroit.
RTA Spokesperson Travis Gonyou says the authority is looking to expand service hours on frequently used routes such as the Gratiot and Woodward avenue lines.
“We know that these are frequently used routes. We know how important they are to get people to jobs, social services,” Gonyou says. “This will be a significant improvement based on what we’ve heard as well as community values that we collected over the summer.”
Gonyou says the next step for the authority is to draft a master plan to implement the service expansion.
