The Regional Transit Authority says all-day bus service should return to key routes in Detroit.

The Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan is asking the SMART bus system to restore certain routes from the suburbs into Detroit. SMART cut back on routes in 2012 due to budget cuts.

Megan Owens is the Executive Director of Transportation Riders United. She says easy transit connections between the suburbs and the city is a top priority.

“People should be able to get between a job in Mt. Clemens and their home in Detroit’s Eastside or to get from their home in midtown to a restaurant in Birmingham at really any time of the day or evening,” Owens says.

Owens says Metro Detroiters should not have to switch busses or wait for long periods at the fairgrounds to get around town.
