Mayor Mike Duggan is nominating Gary Brown to become the Director of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. The nomination comes while the water department prepares to split into two bodies: the DWSD and the Great Lakes Water Authority.

Brown currently serves as the Group Executive of Operations for the City of Detroit. He says the first thing he would do is improve customer service at the water department.

“First and foremost is to improve customer service for both our residents as well as our businesses,” Brown says. “We also want to create jobs. We have 50 million dollars coming from the authority to work on our C-I-D, to improve our infrastructure. And we want to make sure we are creating jobs for Detroiters.”

Mayor Duggan also nominated Palencia Mobley for Deputy Director and Chief Engineer. The DWSD Board of Water Commissioners is expected to vote on the nominations tomorrow.
