Detroit activist Grace Lee Boggs, a fighter for the rights of workers and people of color, dies in the city she loved.
Detroit-based civil rights icon and activist Grace Lee Boggs has died.
She was 100 years old.
Boggs gained international acclaim as a prolific writer, a fighter for empowering people of color and a fierce critic of economic forces she felt were driving Detroit into decline.
Her friends say Boggs died as she lived, surrounded by books, ideas and thinking about the future.
WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter talked with Boggs last year after Detroit emerged from bankruptcy about her view of what the city would, and should, become in the future.
