Wayne State University Hosting Inaugural ‘Barodeur’ Cycling Event
Wayne State is bringing about 1,000 people together to cycle around Detroit.
Wayne State University is bringing 1,000 cyclists to Detroit on Saturday. The school is raising money for student scholarships by hosting a city-wide bike ride, called “The Barodeur.” Spokesperson Michael Brinich says Wayne State President M. Roy Wilson and his wife came up with the idea.
“They’ve gotten to know the city of Detroit by cycling as well as the state of Michigan by cycling it, and President Wilson had been a part of several rides like this, century rides across the country, in different roles at universities, and he wanted to bring that to Wayne State University. He thought it would be a great for people that aren’t familiar with the university to get to know the city and the campus.”

Brinich says the longest course takes riders to Grosse Ile and back on a 100-mile loop. He says helmets are necessary, and cyclists are required to follow the rules of the road as traffic will not be stopped for the event.
