MDOT LIghts Up Metro Detroit Highways
MDOTis partnering with the Freeway Lighting Partners to illuminate highways in Metro Detroit.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is entering a public-private partnership to upgrade freeway lights in Metro Detroit. MDOT is working with a group called Freeway Lighting Partners to install LED lamps over I-94, I-96, I-75, and The Lodge.
Joe Pavona is Special Advisor to Governor Rick Snyder for Public-Private Partnerships. He says approximately 15,000 lights will be upgraded.
“In addition to the savings that we are occurring over the course of the contract, we’re also having an improved service level of that moves from an average of around 70 percent to 100 percent along with maintenance and operations, as well as transferring the risk,” Pavona says.
Pavona says the contract spans 15 years.
He says Freeway Lighting Partners will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the new LED lamps.
