Eastern Michigan University Receives $3.26 Million Donation for Special Education Program

A $3.26 million donation to Eastern Michigan University will increase fellowships and scholarships for special ed.

Long-time donors William and Delores Brehm are gifting more than $3 million to Eastern Michigan University. The Brehms’ donation will increase fellowships and scholarships to the university’s special education and music therapy programs.

EMU spokesperson Geoff Larcom says Delores Behm is a graduate of the special education program.

“She has special insight and feelings for these very important programs,” Gonyou says. “Programs that help students with disabilities and also help many people in need. So these are gifts with a real terrific impact on our students and society as well.”

Former gifts from the Brehm’s established the Delores Soderquist Brehm Center for Special Education. The Brehms’ last donation brought their total contribution to the institution to $8.5 million, making them the university’s largest private donors.
