A few Hamtramck parks are undergoing a half million dollars’ worth of renovations this summer. Over the next week, city leaders will kick off work at Pope Park, Veteran’s Park and Zussman Park. The chair of the Karol Wojtyla Hamtramck Park Committee, Tom Jankowski, says workers plan to replace areas paved with old bricks and an uneven fence in Pope Park.

“We’re going to completely resurface the park. We’re looking at new trees along the street side and other plants and shrubs, and hopefully, towards the end of the year, improve the lighting.”

Jankowski says Zussman Park will receive new walkways, and Veteran’s Park is getting new play and fitness areas. He says all improvements should be in place by the end of the year.
