Two meetings in Southwest Detroit will detail a proposed land swap, as well as ask for input about park improvements.

A couple of community meetings are taking place in Southwest Detroit this month to discuss the proposed land swap between the city and the Detroit International Bridge Company. If passed by City Council, the city would give the Bridge Company land to build a new river crossing, and in return would receive funding and a few acres to expand Riverside Park. Mayor Duggan’s Chief of Staff is Alexis Wiley. She says she hopes the meetings will dispel any confusion about the trade.

“People need the facts. They need to hear exactly what this agreement does and doesn’t do. Really this is a plan that is going to reshape their park into a prime waterfront space for Southwest Detroit.”

Wiley says residents will also be able to suggest park programming during the meetings. She says the proposal is currently being considered by the city’s Planning and Economic Development committee. The next meeting is Monday night at Western International High School.
