Trip On Yo’ Lines” by The Ben Daniels Band

The Ben Daniels Band is an alt-Americana act out of Chelsea, Michigan. It’s a cozy little town, just east of Ann Arbor, that could be the real-life Pleasantville, making it the perfect setting for their delightful mix of folk and rock. On ska-influence jam, “Trip On Yo’ Lines”, they employ vinyl scratches, mandolins, and synthesizers to create something really undefinable. This weekend, they play the Cars & Stars benefit (see below) with Ben’s father, actor Jeff Daniels (did we forget to leave that part out?)

This Week’s Calendar

Ann Arbor Summer Festival  | June 12 at 5:00pm to July 5 at 10:00 pm

Summer’s here and the time is right, for dancing in the streets of Ann Arbor. The city celebrates in style with movies, music, and munchies. A plethora of entertainment including performances by the Indigo Girls, Ingrid Michaelson, and the Golden Dragon Acrobats.

Fuzz Fest II @ The Blind Pig | June 11 at 8:00pm to June 14 at 2:00 am

Here’s the buzz on the fuzz: Ann Arbor is bringing the noise for a 4-night headbanger’s delight. Wolf Eyes, The Amino Acids, PONYSHOW, all under one roof, moshing. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Cars & Stars An Evening with Jeff Daniels @ The Music Hall Center | June 12 @ 8:00 PM

Michigan raised Emmy-award winner Jeff Daniels, also known for his unforgettable roles in critically acclaimed films like “Dumb and Dumber” and “Arachnophobia” (we’re partial here at Culture City) is bringing a different kind of performance to the Music Hall Center. Coming in tow with his son’s alt-Americana music group, the Ben Daniels Band, the two will set the stage for an educational program benefit. This is a black-tie event so don your best cumberbund and bow tie.

The HighFive Beard and Facial Hair Competition @ Harpos Concert Theatre | June 12 @ 4:00 PM

Do you spend hours on end making sure your moustache curls just right? Do you list “ZZ Top”, “Salvador Dali”, and “Fu Manchu” as personal heroes? Do clean-shaven people just not understand you? Well fear not: during the C-2 Counter Culture expo, you’ll be able to show off that beautiful facebush that you’ve been perfecting.

Satori Circus Presents Dbwe inini @ The Tangent Gallery  | June 12 @ 4:00 PM

Not quite a mime and not a clown, Satori Circus sets out to provoke and change the way you think about performance art. Last week, he spoke with WDET’s Travis Wright about this upcoming show.  Check out the interview here.

Super Local Zine Fest @ Trumbullplex  | June 13 @ 12:00 PM

Detroit zinesters rejoice! Join us on Sunday, June 14th for the First Annual Trumbullplex Super Local Zine Fest.

JEFF the Brotherhood @ Small’s Bar | June 15 @ 8:00 PM

JEFF the Brotherhood is a product of real-life brothers Jake and Jamin. Who is JEFF exactly? The world may never know. What we do know is that the duo brings fuzzed-out guitar riffs in the guise of good old fashioned rock n’ roll. They’re comin’ straight outta Nashville and into your living room… if your living room is located in Small’s Bar that is.
