Detroit Metropolitan Airport officials are holding an open house this week to discuss plans to rebuild a runway.

This is the second community forum the airport has organized to keep the public informed about the runway reconstruction project, which is scheduled for next year.

Metro Airport Spokesperson Brian Lassaline says this week’s discussion will review a draft environmental assessment of the site.

“Are there any issues with perhaps threatened plant species and that type of thing?” Lassaline says.  “There may be impact. There is a whole set of criteria. But really the important thing regarding this project and to reinforce in the community is that this is simply a reconstruction project it’s not a new runway.”

The open house is set for Thursday at the Holiday Inn on Merriam Road in Romulus.
