The Henry Ford To Display Chair Lincoln Shot In On 150th Anniversary Of His Death
Henry Ford Museum to display chair President Lincoln sat in when he was assassinated.
A series of events and exhibits across the nation are commemorating the 150th anniversary of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
Many of the memorials are using artifacts to remember the slain president, including the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.
The rocking chair Abraham Lincoln was shot in – complete with bloodstains — will be displayed outside of its protective glass case.
But exhibit curator Donna Braden says the Henry Ford Museum’s taking a few precautions.
“Put a light film over the surface of the chair because every time it was open to any air pieces of it would just fly away, it was so brittle, “ Braden says.
Elsewhere, some of Lincoln’s personal items, including his famed top hat, will join the derringer used to murder him at the scene of the shooting – Ford’s Theatre in Washington DC.
Groups are also recreating portions of Lincoln’s last journey — the funeral train procession to his final resting place in Springfield, Illinois.
